The story of Just Press Play began as a young man's dream to start a business. Starting at age 5, Zac spent a lot of time with his grandfather, Buck, at garage sales & flea markets, finding items of value to resell. Zac developed a strong sense of business and negotiating by watching his grandfather.
At age 12, Zac approached his father, Ron, who was also a business owner, and asked for his help in setting up a stand at a local flea market. His dad agreed and signed a lease with Saturday's Market for an indoor stand and a new business was born!
At first, Zac sold baseball cards and comic books. He soon started buying and selling CD's as well. Then, several years later, Zac borrowed $500.00 from his father to purchase a video game stand. In a short time, he packed up the comic books and baseball cards and concentrated on video games and music. He started with only a few Nintendo, Sega, and Super Nintendo games but was eager to expand quickly and acquire new items.
As his inventory and knowledge grew, Zac opened a second flea market stand at Roots in Manheim. He put up signs at the market stands that offered a 100% Guarantee on
all merchandise. A formula was developed for buying and selling that was much more fair to customers than the chain stores offered...and customers truly responded! A third market location at Green Dragon in Ephrata was soon added. Around this time, a friend from high school, Josh, started helping at the markets.
Needing to acquire even more inventory, he enlisted the help of one of his father's friends who owned a liquidation business in London. Father and son travelled to London on numerous occasions to buy huge lots of games and music, and shipped them home to the USA to be resold. About this time, a second high school friend, Mike, started working with the business.
Ron, Zac, Mike, and Josh were then working out of the families' garage, selling video games and music and operating flea market locations at Root's Country Market on Tuesday, Green Dragon on Friday, and Saturday's Market. Both Mike and Josh are still part of the team today!
The first brick and mortar Just Press Play opened in Mountville, in December 2006. By this time, Zac had also enlisted the help of his then future wife, Katie. Word of mouth spread quickly and generated the majority of the customers coming in the door. Once a new customer came in to Just Press Play, many said they'd never go back to the chain stores again!
Business continued to grow and Just Press Play opened a second location at Kendig Square in Willow Street, in October 2008. Then, in June of 2009, the original Just Press Play moved from Mountville to a bigger and busier location, in the Woods Edge Plaza, a very high traffic area at the intersection of Centerville Road and Columbia Avenue. A flagship 3rd location is now in the works, so please stay tuned!
